The Cağaloğlu Anadolu Lisesi ( German  Anatolisches Gymnasium Cagaloglu , CAL) is a state high school in Turkey . The CAL was founded in 1850 by the mother of Sultan Abdülmecid I , Bezmiâlem Valide Sultan , under the name Valide Mektebi . This school was the first civilian school in the Ottoman Empire. The building was used between 1911 and 1933 as a girls 'school (İnas İdadisi) , and from 1933–1983 as a girls' high school in Istanbul (İstanbul Kız Lisesi) . The CAL has been in the current building since 1983.

On November 3, 2010, the German Minister of State Cornelia Pieper presented the school with the PASCH plaque on behalf of the Foreign Office . The PASCH initiative implemented in 2008 under the name Schools: Partner of the Future promotes the expansion of a worldwide network of 1000 partner schools .

Since the 2006/2007 school year, the CAL has offered its students a five-year training course , consisting of one year Hazırlık (language preparation class) and four years Lise (high school years ) (model 1plus4). Due to the (additional) Hazırlık level and the associated intensive foreign language training , the Cağaloğlu Anadolu Lisesi stands out positively.

Since the school year 2010/2011 five grades, around 900 pupils, have attended the school . The school has six classes. Every year around 180 students are accepted into the preparatory class. In the Lise levels, the average class size is 25–30 students. Smaller class sizes may result for certain focus areas. At the school, in addition to the first foreign language German, English is taught as a second foreign language . The Cağaloğlu Anadolu Lisesi has a high technological standard of equipment and apparatus for teaching purposes, as it has the status of a pilot school. There is also a computer room with an ADSL connection that is accessible to students and teachers, a room for the social sciences, a physics, chemistry and biology laboratory, a library room, a sports hall, a conference room and a cinema room at the school. There is also a boarding school for girls, a dining room and a canteen.

The students are trained by 70 teachers. German is taught by 11 Turkish and 9 German teachers. The German teachers are selected and placed by the Federal Office of Administration . All German teachers have a high professional standard and many years of professional experience. The German department has a German department head. Due to the competent and committed language training, the students complete the "Central German Examination" (ZDP) / A2 diploma at the end of the preparatory class, the " German Language Diploma of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs " (DSD) level I at the end of grade 10 and at the end of grade 12 the DSD of level II. The language diplomas are the highest diplomas that can be awarded for German as a foreign language (DaF). They are valid internationally. The DSD-II enables, in conjunction with a relevant Turkish university qualification, to start studying directly in Germany without having to take a language test again. The DSD-I allows attending a language college (preparatory class for German universities).

The German lessons at CAL, based on modern foreign-language teaching methods, an accompanying examination concept and German-Turkish teacher tandem, are supplemented by numerous extra-curricular offers. a. German-language readings and exchange programs with German schools include.
