Caban (unit)

The Caban , also Cavan , was a measure of volume and weight for rice , coffee , cocoa and grain . The measure applied in the Spanish possessions in the East Indies ( Philippines ).

The measure was also used commercially as a measure of weight. Rice was sold after the picul (around 60 kilograms per unit). The Castilian pound was the Libra to 2 Marco with 9591.9 As (Dutch = 0.048 grams) = 460 7/8 grams

  • Rice 1 caban = 126 to 128 pounds (Castilian.)
  • Wheat 1 caban = 150 pounds (Castilian.)
  • Coffee 1 caban = 52 pounds (Castilian.)
  • Cocoa 1 Caban = 83 pounds (Castilian.)
