The Cabane des Dix is a hut belonging to the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) in the Monte Rosa section and is located above the Lac des Dix reservoir on the Cheilon glacier at an altitude of 2928 m above sea level. M. It is used to climb various mountains in the area, such as the Mont Blanc de Cheilon ( 3870 m ) and the Pigne d'Arolla ( 3796 m ). The hut is on the Haute Route .
history
It replaced the hut built in 1908 with 28 places on the Alpage de Cheilon ( 2550 m or 2700 m ). In 1928 the new hut was built at the Tête Noire rock head, and in 1936 it had to give way to an enlarged building. In 1978 the hut was expanded from 60 to 150 beds; In 2001 comfort was increased, blankets were replaced by blankets and the capacity was reduced to 125.
Access and closest huts
The easiest access is in about 4 hours from the imposing Grande Dixence dam . There are bus connections from Sion to the foot of the dam ( 2166 m ). The path along the lake consists of a dirt road.
From Arolla ( 2000 m ) either the Col de Riedmatten ( 2919 m ) or the Pas de Chèvres ( 2855 m ) must be conquered. The latter pass is via a ladder (safety rope may be necessary). Shortly before the hut there is an easy glacier passage. From Arolla to the hut it takes about 4 hours in both cases.
The closest huts are the Cabane de Prafleuri (1 hour from the Grande Dixence dam) and the Cabane des Aiguilles Rouges (alpine hiking trail: Col des Ignes).
