Caelestis Eichenseer
Caelestis Eichenseer OSB (originally Joseph Anton Eichenseer ) (* July 1, 1924 in Schöllang ; † February 4, 2008 in Saarbrücken ) was a German Latinist who has made a particular contribution to the new Latin .
After military service 1942–1945, he entered the Benedictine Abbey of Sankt Ottilien in 1946 , made his profession on October 8, 1950 and was ordained a priest on March 29, 1952. He studied theology at the University of Munich and was born in 1955 with a thesis on the Symbolum Apostolicum at St. Augustine is doing his doctorate. From 1952 to 1975 he worked at the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae , from 1963 to 1966 he also taught Ancient Church History at the University of the Archabbey of Sankt-Ottilien. In 1965 he was a co-founder of Vox Latina magazine and a founding member of Societas Latina . Since 1975 he worked at the office for neo-Latin at the Saarland University and taught neo-Latin.
Eichenseer was one of the champions for a living Latin , the Latinitas viva . He worked on the further development of the Latin language and its expansion to include new terms. He created a large number of new Latin words, especially in the technical field, such as machina lavatoria for washing machine .
