Cafe Carina

The Café Carina is an artist and music cafe in the 8th Viennese district of Josefstadt . It is located in a walled urban railway arch designed by Otto Wagner , which is overlaid by the Josefstädter Straße station building of the Vienna Stadtbahn , now the U6 line .

Today's Café Carina was until the end of 1984 a family business called “Andre” that had been run for generations. It has existed under the name of Café Carina since 1985 and has established itself as an art venue since summer 1997 through actions by the artist group trans wien . Other events have made the bar, alongside Café Concerto and Chelsea, an integral part of the new scene on the Vienna Belt .

The café sees itself as a place of individual artistic freedom that offers a very mixed program thanks to the self-organization of the organizers. The calendar of events includes semi-private parties, live music, DJ performances and cabaret as well as symposia on belt problems, films or temporary and permanent room installations.

In July 2006, the café became known to a wider public when Pete Doherty gave an impromptu concert in the artist's pub. The audience included Gustav and Björn from Mando Diao .
