The Café Jasmine is a cafe in the district Maxvorstadt in Munich . Its furnishings from the 1950s have largely been preserved in their original form; the interior of the café is a listed building .

Location, property and room layout

The building in which the café is located today was completed in 1954. Before Café Jasmin could move in there the following year, it had been located next to the Künstlerhaus on Lenbachplatz since 1948 .

The current address of Café Jasmin is Steinheilstrasse 20 on the corner of Augustenstrasse on the ground floor of a five-storey residential and commercial building typical of Maxvorstadt, built by Sebastian Orgler.

The entrance to the café is on the sloping corner of the house. Two large shop windows face Augustenstrasse, three face Steinheilstrasse. Above the windows and the door you can see the words "Cafe Jasmin Cafe" in the lively cursive script typical of 1950s advertising. A roof protruding about a meter above the ground floor protects the guests in the bar area.

Two guest rooms of different sizes are connected by a passage, in the smaller one there is a counter .

Furnishing

The furnishings essentially correspond to the original ones designed by Eugen Heiden in 1955 especially for the café.

The café seats 57 guests. The seating furniture is covered with light green velvet, the tables with formica , the table edges with surrounding brass bands. The armchairs have curved backrests, no armrests; they stand on wooden legs. The counter in the smaller dining room is covered with white leather, which is fixed with gold-colored brass buttons.

The floor is covered with carpets and additional carpets, the walls covered with gold-colored wallpaper; a picture wallpaper on the wall on the left of the entrance shows the New Palace of the Hermitage in Bayreuth , it was probably not part of the original furnishings.

The passage between the two guest rooms is covered with mirrors. The wall behind the counter is also mirrored. The ceilings are decorated with ornamentation typical of the time. The chandelier and the metal coat hooks are also typical of the 1950s.
