The People's Publishing is a book publisher based in Munich , the mainly non-fiction books published for the Bavarian culture and history. The publishing house was founded in 1997 by Michael Volk. He is a member of Regionalbuch AG and the German Book Trade Association .

Emergence

After it was founded in 1997, a new phase was initiated in 2003 with the Munich district book "Trudering, Waldtrudering, Riem" . The publisher now brought out everyday stories, original photos, maps and documents for the past and present of the eastern districts of Munich.

Publishing program

Books about the Munich districts of Ramersdorf and Berg am Laim , Bogenhausen , Sendling , Solln or Pasing followed . All district books are provided with historical images and provide information about the history of the city on the basis of contemporary witness reports by the residents. In addition to publications on the Bavarian capital, books with a content-related relationship to Bavaria form the second focus of the publishing program . Between the years 2009 and 2012 the three volumes on Bavarian monuments, Enjoyment with History and On the Track of History, were published . Since 2010, Bayerischer Rundfunk has been touring Bavaria with moderator Schmidt Max in the program freizeit and reports on the listed inns from the book Enjoyment with History .

Several books that are published by Volk Verlag deal with National Socialism in Munich. In 2008 it was published excluded deported disenfranchised - Schwabing and Schwabinger fates 1933 to 1945 . The editor Ilse Macek uses eyewitness reports, biographies and pictures to document the development of Schwabing from a literary and artists' quarter to a district whose residents were among the hardest-working voters of the NSDAP in Munich in 1933.

In Life in Two Worlds , Else Behrend-Rosenfeld's notes and her husband's diaries from exile in England appeared in 2011 as an important document on Jewish history in Munich.

Selected writings and speeches by and about Max Mannheimer were published in 2011 under the title Max Mannheimer - Survivor, Artist, Life Artist by Ilse Macek and Horst Schmidt in the Volk Verlag.

A book about “Giesinger Boazn” was published in June 2012 by Volk Verlag under the title Munich Boazn . The author and communication designer Maximilian Bildhauer portrays 41 restaurants in the Giesing district of Munich .

Biographies are devoted to Bavarian personalities from art, culture, politics and society, e. B. Duke Max in Bavaria , the music cabaret artist Fredl Fesl or Hope Bridges Adams Lehmann , the first woman to pass a medical state examination in Germany in 1880. The Bavarian women's movement is highlighted in publications such as “Evas Töchter”.

Titles on architecture range from looking at the Munich Olympic village ("Habitat") to documenting vacancies and decay in the Bavarian countryside ("Das öde Haus") to suggestions for modern builders ("Well built. Houses in the Miesbach district") ).

Dialect, customs and the Bavarian way of life are saved from watering down and extinction with numerous publications, above all the book “Huber's Bavarian Words” or the series on Bavarian folk music developed together with Adolf Eichenseer , the former Upper Palatinate district keeper , z. Travel and excursion guides for tourists and locals alike serve the leisure market. Among other things, a separate format was developed for this purpose: the “minis” sorted by topic, folded and weatherproof laminated fan-folds for your pocket. The distinctive square illustrated books "Bavaria", "Franconia" and "Munich" are available in up to eight languages ​​and are primarily intended as souvenirs for tourists and hosts.
