Monika Bittl (born January 9, 1963 in Beilngries ) is a German author .

Life

Monika Bittl completed a daily newspaper traineeship from 1982 to 1984, lived in Sicily for two years and studied German and psychology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1986 to 1992, completing a Magistra Artium. In 1993/94 she received a scholarship from the Munich Film School (script workshop); since 1993 she has been living as a freelance writer in Munich. In 2011 she was appointed tower clerk in Munich . In 2014 she was the first woman to be elected “Author of Freedom” by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation . As an unusually "enormously versatile author" (Süddeutsche Zeitung), Bittl works very successfully in various areas: She writes scripts, narrative non-fiction books, novels, essays, journalistic articles and teaches creative writing at the HFF Munich and the "Jugend Film Fernsehen" institute.

As a screenwriter, she specializes in Bavarian material and topics. In her first five novels she often described historical women. In the narrative non-fiction book she takes tragicomic stocktaking of today's reality of life for women. She also worked as a journalist, among others for the Süddeutsche Zeitung and Focus . Until 2016 she wrote essays for NovoArgumente, among others .

With "You have to be able to let go", Bittl presented a British black comedy in September 2018, which was highly praised and described by the book journal as "fast, clever and hilarious".

“I remembered myself as younger - reading toxin for women over 40” was number one on the Spiegel bestseller list -Paperback for 27 weeks in 2016 . In total, it was on the Spiegel bestseller list for two years and thus advanced to a German mega-seller. It has been translated into Chinese, Russian and Dutch, among others. “I want to stay the way I was - happiness push-up for women over 40” entered the Spiegel-Paperback bestseller list three days after it appeared in 2017 and also became a bestseller. The following titles, too, would be happily married without my husband - reading wellness for women with attachments and women never lie and become 39 at most - downaging for beginners entered the Spiegel bestseller list of non-fiction books shortly after their publication in August 2018 and December 2019. Bittl's novel You have to be able to let go also reached the Spiegel bestseller list shortly after its publication.

Since I remembered myself younger, every cover has a chicken depicted.

Monika Bittl is married and has a grown son.
