The Canadian company was founded in 1900 by Alphonse Desjardins and is based in Lévis , Québec . It has branches in the provinces of Québec, Ontario , Manitoba and New Brunswick and is also represented worldwide by subsidiaries.

history
The company was founded in 1900 and was the first credit union in America. It began expanding outside of Quebec Province in 1992 with the opening of the first Desjardins Bank branch in Florida , USA. The expansion progressed through further takeovers. In 2010, the bank took over Western Financial for $ 443 million. Thus the company took over 121 branches with 500,000 customers in the provinces of British Columbia , Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. In 2011 Desjardins Credit Union in Ontario was merged with Meridian Credit Union .
