Caitlin Doughty (born August 19, 1984 in Oahu , Hawaii , USA ) is an American undertaker , author , blogger and YouTuberin .

Life

Doughty grew up in Honolulu . She studied Medieval Studies at the University of Chicago , her thesis dealt with the witch trials in the early modern period .

In 2006, Doughty went to San Francisco , California, and after a six-month search, found a job in a privately operated crematorium . After working there for a year, she attended an advanced training program at a college for funeral workers . As a result, from 2011 she became involved in the organization The Order of the Good Death , which she founded, whose goal is to change the relationship of Western societies to death. The aims of the association include reducing the fear of dying and suppressing the fact of death. Furthermore, the order propagates options such as cremation, burial at sea, etc. Furthermore, Doughty suggests that practices such as the wake and other mourning ceremonies should be cultivated again.

In 2011, Doughty began the Ask a Mortician series on YouTube, which has been very successful ever since. In 2014 her first book on the subject of dying and burial was published with the title Smoke Gets in Your Eyes , which was also published in German in 2016.

In 2015 she opened her own funeral home, initially under the name Undertaking LA , today she runs one in Hollywood ( Los Angeles ) together with Jeff Jorgenson under the name Clarity Funeraly & Cremation , which she runs as Managing Director.
