Cajetan Toscani
Cajetan Toscani (* 1742 in Mariaschein , Bohemia , † December 22, 1815 in Dresden ) was a German draftsman and painter.
Life
Toscani was the son of Italian parents in Bohemia and came to Dresden at a young age. His artistic talent was recognized early and he received drawing lessons from Charles François Hutin (1715–1776), the director of the Dresden Art Academy . Toscani soon started painting with oil paints. In 1766 Toscani became a teacher at the art academy. Numerous well-known painters received lessons from him, such as Johann Gottfried Abraham Frenzel , Moritz Retzsch and Gustav Heinrich Naecke .
Cajetan Toscani's brother Carl Josef Toscani was also active as a porcelain painter in Meißen. He later also ran a porcelain factory in Copenhagen.
