Cajun Moon (J. J. Cale song)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cajun Moon is a song by JJ Cale that was first released in 1974, both as a single and on the album Okie . JJ Cale himself had no particular success with the title. As a result, however, the song was covered many times . The most famous versions are by Randy Crawford and Herbie Mann .

text

The text sings of the moon over Acadiana ( Cajun Country) and its influence on living beings , in this case on the life partner whom the moon is said to have taken with him. The person left behind should not worry about it, because it is not she, but the moon that is responsible for the partner's disappearance. The type of separation remains open, and so any interpretation is possible, from a simple dissolution of the relationship to the suicide of a partner.

style

The song is kept in the calm tempo typical for JJ Cale ( laid back , " leaned back "). The instrumentation corresponds to a rock band , but is performed very subtly.

Cover versions (selection)

Cajun Moon is part of the tour program of many musicians, especially from the fields of rock, rock 'n' roll , rhythm and blues and contemporary R&B .
