Beaches and bays in Mallorca

Cala des Matzoc (also Es Matzoc / Cala Matzocs , Castilian Cala Matsoch ) is a small bay with a wide sandy beach in the northeast of the Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located 8.5 kilometers northeast of the small town of Artà .

Location and description

Es Matzoc beach

Located in the northeastern part of the municipality of Artà, in the area of Aubarca (also Albarca ), about 1.5 kilometers west of Cala Estreta , the bay is only accessible on foot along the coast or by off-road vehicle via private property or the public estates of the Parc natural de la península de Llevant accessible. The paths through the fenced private property are blocked by locked gates. The bay forms the mouth of the Torrent des Matzoc , a torrent ( torrent ) that only releases its water into the sea when there is very heavy rainfall.

Es Matzoc Bay extends 176 meters inland and is 210 meters wide at its entrance to the sea. The sea inlet is flanked on both sides by rocks. On the west side is the gently sloping sandy beach, which is surrounded by a pine forest and interspersed with stones. Due to its seclusion, it is only visited by a few bathers. The currents in this coastal cut often lead to seaweed washing up . Nearby, west towards Cap de Ferrutx , is the Torre des Matzoc , also called Torre d'Aubarca , built in 1751 , on which an old cannon is still located.

Access

Coming from Artà , use the MA-15 road towards Cala Rajada , then follow the signs to Cala Torta behind a petrol station . At the right-hand junction to Cala Torta, choose the straight road towards Cala Estreta . This is where the poorly maintained road ends at its end and the coastal footpath leads west to Es Matzoc .
