Caladmor is a Swiss epic folk metal band from Zurich .

Band history

Caladmor emerged in 2001 from the alternative rock band Pale . They changed the name, not only because there were several bands with the same name, but also because their music style evolved from the original mix of alternative rock and grunge to metal. They had already recorded several demos beforehand. The line-up at the time remained the same. The new name was taken from JRR Tolkien's fantasy language Sindarin (the language of the gray elves) and means “dark light”. The debut album Midwinter was released on June 19, 2010 on the Twilight label . Päde Kistler von Eluveitie can be heard as a guest musician in 1405 AD .

In 2013, the album Of Stones and Stars was released as an in-house production through the distribution of Einheit Produktionen . Another guest musician from Eluveitie is Chrigel Glanzmann.

In 2014 the acoustic album The Ragnarök Sessions was released , again as an in-house production, but this time without major distribution. The album includes traditional folk songs. The album was premiered at the Ragnarök spectacle in Bülach . Hence the name comes from and the first edition of the album was also sold there.

Music genre

The music style of Caladmor combines different musical elements from different metal sub-genres such as death metal and viking metal with folkloric elements and those from medieval rock . In terms of text, motifs from history, legends and fairy tales are used and the relationship to today's world is established. The texts are not only written in German and English, but also in Middle High German and are partly based on original texts from the Edda or Old Icelandic . Most of the folk instruments are based on samples or were recorded by guest musicians, while the rest of the band consists of a classic metal / rock lineup.
