Ju Sung-hyok (born January 2, 1983 ) is a former North Korean ice hockey player .

Career

Ju Sung-hyok made his debut as a 25-year-old at the 2008 World Cup in Division III for the North Korean national team and promptly rose with the team to Division II. There the team could not hold up in 2009 and was relegated again without winning points, even if the games against Israel and Iceland were only lost by one goal difference. But 2010 succeeded the renewed rise, to which Ju contributed as the top scorer of the tournament (together with the South African Andre Marais ). The North Koreans did not compete there in 2011 for financial reasons. So he was also on the ice for the East Asians in the lowest division in 2012 , 2013 and 2014 , when he not only acted as captain of his team, but was also voted the best player of his team. In all three tournaments, North Koreans took second place (2012 behind Turkey , 2013 behind South Africa and 2014 behind Bulgaria ) and thus missed promotion. In 2015 , Ju took another attempt at promotion with the North Koreans at the tournament in Izmir . This time he returned to Division II as the tournament winner. He then ended his career.

At club level, Ju plays for Pyongchol in the North Korean ice hockey league and became North Korean champions with the club in 2010, 2011 and 2014.
