The Caleta Buena Nueva ( Spanish ) is a bay on the south coast of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located south of the Argentina Glacier on the southeast bank of the South Bay , synonymous with the Hurd Peninsula .
Spanish scientists named it after the Buena Nueva , one of the three ships of the Spanish navigator Gabriel de Castilla (1577–1620), with which he was probably the first to sail the Southern Ocean in 1603 .
