Around 1904, Calixte Gas followed the call of his uncle, who had already emigrated to Mexico, and settled in Guadalajara , where his first name changed to Calixto in accordance with Mexican customs. In his new place of residence he soon made friends with several other French people and the Belgian Edgar Everaert . The young men enjoyed playing football and also practiced this sport in their new place of residence. In 1906 they founded Club Unión, which two years later became Guadalajara FC and many years later Club Deportivo Guadalajara , Mexico's most popular football club.

After the outbreak of World War I , like many other French migrants in Mexico, he followed the call of his fatherland to fight as a soldier. Just a week before its end on November 11, 1918, Gas was killed in a combat mission in the small Belgian town of Staden .
