Callatis Mangalia is a Romanian football club from Mangalia , Constanța County .

history

Callatis Mangalia was founded as Metalul Mangalia in 1963 . The club was initially in the shadow of its local rival Marina Mangalia and only played in regional leagues. In 1980 Metalul made the first promotion to the Divizia C . After placements in midfield, the club succeeded in advancing to Divizia B four years later . A year later, the club had to relegate again. The direct resurgence did not succeed, as Metalul finished the season 1985/86 only in twelfth place. At the end of the 1987/88 season, the second promotion to Divizia B followed, which again led to immediate relegation.

After the Romanian Revolution , the club changed its name to Callatis Mangalia (named after the historical Greek name of the city). At the end of the 1989/90 season there was renewed promotion. The club belonged to Divizia B for five years. After three years, each of which could be completed on a place in midfield, the club slipped into the relegation zone and had to leave the league in 1995 as the bottom of the table.

After relegation Callatis found himself in the midfield of Divizia C again. Only with the involvement of the Daewoo Group in 1997 did things get better again. The club was henceforth called Callatis Daewoo Mangalia . After a fourth place at the end of the 1997/98 season, promotion followed in 1999. Relegation in the 1999/2000 season was followed by relegation in 2001 , as a result of which Daewoo ended his engagement and the club returned to its name Callatis Mangalia . In 2003 it made another leap into Divizia B when Calltis benefited from an increase. Membership in the House of Commons ended in 2006 with a league reform that reduced Divizia B from three to two seasons and Callatis had to relegate despite being in the middle of the field.

In Liga III, Callatis placed in midfield for three years in a row. After finishing fifth in 2010, the club returned to League II in 2011. Promotion coach Erik Lincar then left the club and was replaced on June 27, 2011 by Marin Barbu . This resigned on September 27, 2011 after the club had lost five of the first six championship games and finished last in the table. The previous assistant coach Cristian Șchiopu took over the team on an interim basis for two game days until a new head coach was introduced on October 10, 2011 with Mugurel Cornățeanu .

Shortly before the start of the 2012/13 season, the club withdrew from League II due to financial difficulties and started in League IV. After a year, the club made it to League III.
