Reiner Hans Dinkel (born February 12, 1946 in Lichtenfels , Upper Franconia, † June 22, 2010 in Rostock ) was a German population scientist.

Career

From 1968 Dinkel studied philosophy and economics at the University of Munich . In 1970 he was accepted into the German National Academic Foundation . After graduating with a degree in economics in 1972, he stayed in Munich as a research assistant. During this time he wrote his doctoral thesis, which he presented in 1976. After his habilitation in 1981, he stayed at Harvard University from 1981 to 1983 . In 1985 the German Research Foundation accepted him as a Heisenberg fellow .

In 1986 he was appointed to the chair for quantitative methods in demography at the University of Bamberg . In 1998 he moved to the University of Rostock , where he rebuilt the diploma course in demography, which is unique in Germany.
