Callitris drummondii is a plant from the family of the cypress family (Cupressaceae). It isnative tothe southwestern part of Western Australia .

description

Callitris drummondii grows as an evergreen shrub that can reach heights of up to 10 meters. The branches go straight or upright from the trunk.

The green leaves are 3 to 4 millimeters long and the reverse side is keeled.

The male cones stand individually on the branches. The female cones standing individually or in groups on the branches have a flattened spherical shape with a diameter of 1.0 to 1.5 centimeters. Each cone is made up of six thick cone scales and usually carries six seeds. After ripening, the seeds can remain in the cones for several years before they are released. The chestnut brown seeds are about 3 millimeters in size and have one or two wings.

Distribution and location

The natural range of Callitris drummondii is in southwestern Western Australia . It extends there from Albany to Israelite Bay .

Callitris drummondii grows mainly on sandy soils which have formed over laterite or on dunes slightly away from the coast . The species is nowhere common.

Systematics

It was first described as Frenela drummondii in 1863 by Filippo Parlatore in Journal of Botany, British and Foreign , Volume 1, Page 35. Ferdinand von Mueller transferred the species to the genus in 1882 in Systematic Census of Australian Plants… Volume 1, Page 109 as Callitris drummondii Callitris

Hazard and protection

Callitris drummondii is classified as "Endangered" in the IUCN Red List . It is pointed out, however, that a new review of the hazard is necessary. Forest fires and overgrazing are stated as the main risk factors.
