Calocoris affinis

Calocoris affinis (also known as the green thistle bug ) is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs become 6.8–8.2 mm long. Like many other soft bugs, they are completely green in color, but are easily recognizable due to their size and elongated body shape. Its surface is glossy, the membrane is brown-black with light veins. The basal antennae is green, while the 2nd, 3rd and 4th antennae are dark. The rails are reinforced with brown thorns.

Occurrence and habitat

The species occurs in western North Africa and in Europe as far as Russia. However , it is absent in the British Isles and Northern Europe. Calocoris affinis occurs more frequently in the low mountain ranges than in the lowlands.

Way of life

The bugs live polyphagous on different types of plants (especially nettles ). The adult bugs sometimes appear alongside the nymphs as early as the end of May and fly into September. They are most common in June and July. The species is an egg hibernator.
