The Mont Cenis bellflower ( Campanula cenisia ) is a species of the genus bellflower ( Campanula ).

features

The Mont Cenis bellflower is a perennial plant that grows in loose lawns and reaches heights of 1 to 5 centimeters. There are numerous leaf rosette-forming, non-flowering shoots. The stem is often curved and ascending. It is bald at the bottom, hairy at the top and leafy to below the flower . The leaves are entire and fleshy. The rosette leaves are oval, the stem leaves broadly lanceolate . A single flower is formed per stem. This is upright, spread out in a star shape, up to 15 millimeters wide and light blue. The corolla lobes are pointed and ovoid . The calyx is hairy, almost as big as the crown and has lanceolate tips. The calyx bays are blunt and have no appendage.

The flowering period extends from July to September.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 34.

Occurrence

The Mont Cenis bellflower occurs in the western Alps. To the east its area extends to Tyrol, but it is absent in Germany. It often grows over limestone slate on ledges, rock debris and moraines in the alpine zone at altitudes up to 3600 meters. It is a character species of the Campanulo-Saxifragetum from the Association of Slate Debris Societies (Drabion hoppeanae).
