features

Vitasek's bellflower is a perennial plant that reaches heights of up to 40 centimeters. It forms turnip-shaped side roots. The stem is upright, angular and usually leafed to the inflorescence . The basal leaves are rounded to kidney-shaped and are no longer present at the time of flowering. The stem leaves are sessile, narrow to broadly lanceolate , with entire margins and more or less glabrous. The inflorescence is loose and multi-flowered. The flowers sit on thin stems and are nodding, like the flower buds. The crown is blue to blue-violet, bell-shaped to funnel-shaped and 12 to 16 millimeters long. The calyx has no appendage and narrow triangular to awl tips.

The flowering period extends from July to August.

Vitasek's bellflower occurs in the East and Southeast Alps to the Wiener Schneeberg east of the Adige and in the Balkans. It grows singly or in small groups on mountain meadows and stony pastures at altitudes of up to 1800 meters.
