The Can-Am Spyder Roadster is a trike from the Canadian manufacturer Bombardier Recreational Products , a former subsidiary of Bombardier . In contrast to many other trikes, the Spyder has two wheels on the front axle and a central rear wheel.

development

The idea for the Spyder came about in 1996 during the manufacturer's annual internal design competition. The idea was to develop a road vehicle with a design based on that of snowmobiles . The first prototype was completed two years later.

Launch

The Spyder was unveiled to the public in North America on February 20, 2007, after which it was successively launched. It was initially available in a number of US states and four Canadian provinces. The Spyder was officially unveiled in Europe on June 14th, 2008 during the Le Mans 24-hour race . The vehicle has been on sale in Germany since July 2008.

Models

The Can-Am Spyder is offered in two gearshift variants: the Spyder SM5 has a 5-speed gearshift with reverse gear, the Spyder SE5 a sequential electronic automatic transmission. The Spyder RT was also introduced in 2010 - a variant that is specially equipped for touring with many new comfort features. Among other things, the storage space for luggage has been significantly increased.

From 2018, the Ryker will be a lighter variant, optionally with 50 HP 600 cm³ two or 82 HP 900 cm³ three-cylinder and CVT automatic transmission. The single seat of the basic model can be expanded to include a pillion passenger seat in the 'Rally Edition'.
