Eugène Anthiome

Eugène-Jean-Baptiste Anthiome (born August 19, 1836 in Lorient , † July 24, 1916 in Versailles ) was a French composer .

Life

Eugène Anthiome studied harmony with Antoine Elwart , organ with François Benoist and composition with Michele Carafa at the Paris Conservatory . In 1861 he won the First Second Grand Prix de Rome with the cantata Atala . From 1863 he taught at the conservatory, later he was given a position as professor for piano, which he held until 1901. From 1889 he taught the fourteen-year-old Maurice Ravel in the preparatory class for piano.

The focus of Anthiome's compositional work was on piano works and operettas. He also wrote a piano school ( L'Art du piano, méthode pour les commençants , Paris 1880).
