Canada First Defense Strategy
The Canada First Defense Strategy (CFDS) is a strategy from 2011 by the Canadian government to better equip its military forces, both materially and personally, and thus to increase their effectiveness. The strategy also includes border control of the arctic areas in the north of the country with the support of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canadian Coast Guard .
target
The strategic objective is to modernize the military and to provide them with clearly defined areas of responsibility and the necessary infrastructure . To this end, the military is being strengthened in terms of personnel and materially modernized.
Areas of application
The Canada First Defense Strategy comprises six core missions . In the future, the Canadian armed forces should be able to resolve several parallel conflicts and implement the defined core missions simultaneously.

- Supporting local security forces and ensuring security at major events .
- Ensuring national security and counter-terrorism .

- Direction and participation in long-term military operations.
- faster readiness of armed forces to provide support in crises worldwide.
