Candy barr ; actually Juanita Dale Slusher (* 6. July 1935 in Edna , Texas ; † 30th December 2005 Victoria , Texas) was an American burlesque - dancer , stripper and nude model .

Life

Juanita Dale Slusher lost her mother in a car accident at the age of nine. Due to problematic family circumstances, she moved out of home at the age of 13 and worked as a prostitute, cigarette girl or waitress. She married at the age of 14 and the marriage was short-lived.

In 1951 she took part in the black and white porn film Smart Alec (also Smart Aleck ), which lasted only 20 minutes . She was 16 at the time. In the following years she performed successfully as Candy Barr as a burlesque dancer in Dallas , Los Angeles and Las Vegas and worked as a photo and nude model and as a choreographer for 20th Century Fox . Barr came into conflict with the law several times: in 1956 she shot her second husband in self-defense and in 1957 she was sentenced to 15 years in prison for possession of marijuana, but ultimately served only three years of it. This has been picked up by the tabloids nationwide in the United States. Likewise, her acquaintance with Jack Ruby and Mickey Cohen sparked controversy.

Barr also acted as a stage actress, she appeared in Dallas in the role of Rita Marlowe in the play Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? on. In 1970 the documentary A History of the Blue Movie appeared on the history of American porn film. This documentary reported extensively about Smart Alec and his leading actress. As a result, Barr was considered the "first US porn star". In later years she distanced herself from this film in an interview with Playboy . She died in 2005 in a nursing home at a pneumonia . Candy Barr was inducted into the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas.
