Canhestros is a place and a former municipality in the Baixo Alentejo region in southern Portugal .
history
The municipality was re-created in 1988 by outsourcing areas from the municipality of Figueira dos Cavaleiros and the municipality of Ferreira do Alentejo.
In the course of the territorial reform on September 29, 2013 , the municipality was merged with the municipality of Ferreira do Alentejo to form the new municipality of Ferreira do Alentejo e Canhestros . Ferreira do Alentejo became the seat of the municipality.

Canhestros was the seat of a community of the same name Freguesia in the district ( concelho ) of Ferreira do Alentejo in the Beja district . The municipality had an area of 71.9 km² with 412 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011). This resulted in a population density of 5.7 inh / km².
