Canidelo is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in northwestern Portugal .

history

Finds such as megaliths prove a prehistoric settlement.

Today's place was probably rebuilt after the medieval Reconquista . Since 1629 at the latest, Canidelo was an independent municipality. It remained a parish in Maia County until 1836. Since then Canidelo has been part of the Vila do Conde County.

With the territorial reform of 2013, the independent municipality of Canidelo was dissolved and merged with Malta to form the new municipality of Malta e Canidelo .

Canidelo was the seat of a parish of the same name ( Freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Vila do Conde in the Porto district . It had an area of ​​3.3 km² and 901 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Canidelo and Malta were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Malta e Canidelo .
