Adolf Eckert-Möbius

Adolf Eckert-Möbius , born as Adolf Eckert (* December 4, 1889 in Breslau , † March 31, 1976 in Halle ad Saale ) was a German physician . He taught at the University of Halle .

Life

The son of a farmer studied medicine from 1908 to 1913 at the University of Breslau . In 1914 he graduated from practices at the University Hospital of Wroclaw and the General Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf, in the same year approved and in Wroclaw for MD PhD . During the First World War he was used as a military doctor from 1914 to 1917. Then he worked at the Damascus military hospital . He also went to Turkey with an Asian corps, where he acted as senior physician . He was awarded the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Class, the Hanseatic Cross and the Turkish Crescent .

After the end of the war Eckert was a trainee in Kiel and then came as an assistant to the Institute for Pathology at the University of Hamburg . He spent the period from 1921 to 1923 as a scheduled assistant at the University of Jena . There he was a student of Karl Wittmaack . In 1923 he married the widow of a comrade from the front. He adopted his children and took the double name Eckert-Möbius . In that year he was also employed as an assistant at the University of Halle , where he completed his habilitation in ear , nose and throat medicine in 1924 . In 1926 he was employed there as senior physician at the ear clinic.

In August 1928 he was appointed non-official extraordinary professor in Halle . In the same year he was promoted to full professor for ear, nose and throat medicine. His predecessor was Alfred Denker . In 1928 he was appointed director of the university clinic for this area. In 1932 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

During the National Socialist era , Eckert-Möbius was a member of the NSDAP ( membership number 2.261.133), the National Socialist Teachers' Association (NSLB), the NSDDB , the NSAHB and the Reiter-SS . During the Second World War he was chief physician in field hospital 275 in 1939. From 1940 he was an advisory otologist in Paris for three months and in 1941 was indispensable .

After the end of the war he was dismissed by the University of Halle, but he was able to continue working as a specialist in assistant positions. From 1946 he belonged to the FDGB . In October 1948 he took up his professorship again. In 1958 he finally retired after having been the director of the clinic for 30 years. He was also dean of the medical faculty five times . The GDR honored him in 1959 as an outstanding scientist of the people .

Eckart-Möbius died in Halle in 1976 at the age of 86.
