Cao family

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Caos were a widely ramified clan, the most famous representative of which is the Chinese warlord Cao Cao .

history

The progenitor of the family was Cao Can . His later descendant Cao Cao established the Kingdom of Wei in the Chinese central plain. After his death, his son Cao Pi deposed the last Han emperor and declared himself emperor. But even under his son and successor Cao Rui , the power of the Cao family began to wane, while the influence of the Sima family at court increased more and more. The general Sima Yi in particular had considerable ambitions, and he swung himself up to regent the underage Wei Emperor Cao Fang . In 265 his grandson Sima Yan overthrew the last Wei emperor, Cao Huan , and established the Jin dynasty . This ended the rule of the Cao family.

In addition to the military and political successes of the Cao family, they also had literary talent: Cao Cao and his sons Cao Pi and Cao Zhi are remarkable poets.
