Cao Shuang

Cao Shuang ( Chinese  曹爽 , Pinyin Cáo Shuǎng , W.-G. Ts'ao Shuang ; 昭伯 , Zhāobó , Zhāo-po ; † 249 ) was the ruler of the third Wei emperor Cao Fang from 239 to 249 . Born towards the end of the 2nd century AD as the son of Cao Zhen , he was appointed regent and commander- in -chief together with Sima Yi in 239 shortly before the death of the second Wei emperor Cao Rui , and received the title of imperial court administrator . After Cao Rui's death, he seized the highest military authority with the help of Cao Fang. But he gradually succumbed to extravagance and immorality. In 244 he tried to conquer the Shu empire, but was defeated by the Shu regent Fei Yi .

In 249 he was captured with Cao Fang in a coup initiated by Sima Yi while visiting Cao Rui's tomb . After handing over his power to Sima Yi, he was shortly afterwards accused of a conspiracy and executed .
