The Caparo T1 is a racing car from the British manufacturer Caparo Vehicle Technologies , which was manufactured from the end of 2006 to January 2019 in a limited edition of 25 copies per year.
The T1 was developed by a team of former employees of McLaren Cars ltd , who were also partly responsible for the development of the McLaren F1 . The structure of the T1 is similar to that of a Formula 1 vehicle , but with two offset seats, over which a glass dome arches as the vehicle roof.
The T1 from a driven V8 engine with 3.5 liter displacement , dry sump lubrication , 423 kW (575 bhp ~ 582 PS) at 10,500 min -1 and 420 Nm at 9000 min -1 .
With the unladen vehicle weight of 470 kg, this results in a power-to-weight ratio of only around 1.11 kg / kW (0.9 kg / HP) or more than 1200 HP per ton, which even exceeds that of a superbike . The T1 accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.5 seconds, and it takes less than 5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 mph (161 km / h).
Its top speed is around 330 km / h. The vehicle transmission is sequential with switches on the steering wheel, an upshift takes 60 ms and a downshift takes 30 ms. LEDs on the steering wheel indicate the switching points.
In the bends, lateral accelerations of up to 3 g are achieved at high speeds , which is made possible by the high contact pressure of the large wings . Because of the high fuel consumption, a short range is to be expected with a tank volume of only 55 liters.
During test drives for the British car magazines Fifth Gear and Top Gear , there were several incidents with the car. When Jason Plato was behind the wheel, the car caught fire and Plato was injured. Some time later, during a test drive with Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson , part of the underbody came off. On the broadcast, Clarkson mentioned other problems with the vehicle. Parts of the front suspension came loose when a Dutch journalist was behind the wheel, and at the Goodwood Festival of Speed the open throttle valve stuck.
