Capcom Play System

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The CPS ( Capcom Play System ) is a video game board that is mostly used in amusement arcades .

There was, similar to the Neo Geo , the home console from SNK, which resembles the arcade counterpart of the MVS , a home console based on the CPS from Capcom , which, however, was far less popular than the Neo Geo.

Street Fighter II is the most popular game for this system. On the last CPS for the time being, the CPS III, z. B. "Street Fighter III 3rd Strike" and "Warzard".

Today you can find Capcom games mostly on consoles and only a few implementations of classic arcade titles such as Street Fighter II or Capcom are bringing more and more titles onto the market on other large filter boards / motherboards from large companies such as Namco or Sega . Examples of Capcom arcade titles on other boards / motherboards / filterboards are "Capcom Fighting Jam" by Namco System 246 and the series "Capcom vs SNK" and "Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper" by Sega Naomi.

The latest version of the Capcom Play System, the CPS III, uses, among other things, a DVD drive and a kind of dongle, which is one of the comprehensive security measures that Capcom takes to avoid bootlegs. In the meantime, however, the CPS-3 board has been cracked.

As of CPS II, the CPS boards have a 3.6V 1/2 AA lithium battery that protects the board from unwanted copying / reading. There are copies of the Roms and it is possible to emulate them, but this has not been the case for a long time.

There are good emulators for CPS-1, CPS-2 and CPS-3 such as B. the MAME or Nebula .
