Cape Crawford is a remote settlement in the Roper Gulf region of the Northern Territory of Australia , essentially a stopover rather than a permanent town . There are hardly any permanent residents as most of them stay in Cape Crawford for professional reasons.

Above all, Cape Crawford is an important outpost of civilization for long-distance inter - Australian traffic . The Heartbreak Hotel there plays an important role as an overnight accommodation option for travelers and almost all residents of Cape Crawford are employed in the Heartbreak Hotel. The Carpentaria Highway and the Tablelands Highway intersect at Cape Crawford . Cape Crawford is also the most important water point in the northeastern Northern Territory .

Cape Crawford is in close proximity to the Lost City , a rock formation and tourist attraction.

Cape Crawford is not on the coast, but around 120 kilometers inland. The next town is Borroloola, about 110 kilometers northeast . In contrast to Cape Crawford, Borroloola is a real town.

Cape Crawford was named after Lindsay Crawford , who crossed the region in the 1880s. Crawford referred to the area as a Cape because it is at the northern end of the Abner Ranges .
