The Cape Descent (from English descent , slope, slope ' ) is a cape on the Ingrid Christensen coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . It is just south of the Mather Peninsula . Offshore to the southwest is Pchelka Island in the group of the Rauer Islands . The cape consists of a group of three hills flanked by moraines . Rock samples taken here in 1976 showed an age of over 3.4 billion years.
Australian scientists named the cape. It was named after a reconnaissance march carried out in 1992, which ended on the steep, icy flanks of the cape in the north and west.
