The Cape Spencer Light is a lighthouse in Alaska built in 1925 . It is located between Cross Sound and Icy Strait on the southern tip of Glacier Bay National Park . The operator is Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve . As defined by the International Hydrographic Organization , Cape Spencer forms the southeastern border of the Gulf of Alaska .
building
The approximately seven-meter-high structure in the Art Deco style is made of reinforced concrete and is located on a rock. A so-called hoist house is used to operate the crane for goods from the boat to the lighthouse building and back. There is a helipad in the northeast of the tower .
beacon
The beacon is spread with the identifier Fl W 6s.abr
v via a 3rd order Fresnel lens and has a nominal range (white) of 17 nautical miles (31 km). In 1974 operations were automated; until then the facility was occupied by 4 members of the United States Coast Guard .
Monument protection
The main building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since December 4, 1975 .
