The Capitol State Forest is a 91,650 acres (371 km²) state forest in Thurston Counties and Grays Harbor in Washington State . It includes parts of the unusual geological feature Mima Mounds .
The Capitol State Forest is administered by the Washington Department of Natural Resources . The forest is used several times. This is how wood is actively harvested ; In addition, the forest is accessible to all-terrain vehicles , mountain bikes , riders and hikers . It is roughly bounded by US Highway 12 in the southwest, Interstate 5 in the east, and Washington State Route 8 in the north. Most of the Black Hills are part of the State Forest. The altitudes vary between 600 ft (183 m) and 2,659 ft (810 m). Approximately 575 mi (925 km) of dirt roads run through the Capitol State Forest.
The cities of Olympia , Tumwater , Oakville and McCleary are close to its borders .
