Type Stratovolcano

The Cerro Capurata is a 6,039 m high Stratovolcano at the boundary between western Bolivia and northern Chile . Together with the two volcanoes Humarata and Acotango, it forms the Quimsachata volcano group. Quimsachata means "three" in the Andean Aymara language. The Capurata is the southeasternmost of the three stratovolcanoes.

On maps, the summit height of Capurata is still indicated at 5,990 m, but a GPS measurement of an expedition by mountaineers Porfirio Chura, Thomas Wilken and Holger Eltgen on April 20, 2010 showed the newly calculated maximum value of 6,039 m for the south-easternmost of the three summit points .
