Carcariass is a melodic death metal / technical death metal band from Besançon , France , formed in 1991. The name goes back to Carcharodon carcharias , the Latin name of the great white shark .

history

The band was formed in 1991. The band members come from France and Switzerland . The band currently consists of Pascal Lanquetin (electric guitar), Raphaël Couturier (electric bass and vocals), Bertrand Simonin (drums) and Jérome Lachenal (electric guitar).

In August 1994 the band recorded their first demo, Ancestral War . Through this demo the band achieved a certain notoriety and played at various concerts, mainly as the opening band for Sadist on their tour in France in March 1995.

In 1997 the band released their first album, which contained nine songs. The album was called Hell on Earth .

In 1998 they released the second album Sideral Torment through Impact Records . It was recorded at the Impuls Studios in Belgium .

In 2002 they released the third album Killing Process , which was released on Adipocere Records . It was recorded in the LB-LAB under the direction of Stephane Buriez near Lille .

Since January 2004 two guitarists have played in the band, since Jérome Lachenal joined the band as the second guitarist. The band then played many concerts not only in France but all over Europe , together with bands like Cradle of Filth , Impaled Nazarene , Sadist and Alastis .

The fourth album E-xtinction was released in June 2009 on Great Dane Records . A special feature of the album is that eight of the twelve songs are instrumental pieces.

style

The style of the band is described as Technical Death Metal, which makes use of some guitar riffs from Thrash Metal . In addition, the high speed of the drums is characteristic of the band. Another characteristic of the band is the emphasized position of the electric bass, which can be heard throughout the album.
