The Cardston Alberta Temple is the sixth temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the first outside the United States was built. It is located in Cardston in the Canadian province of Alberta . The place was founded in 1887 by Mormon settlers from Utah . The temple is one of the few that do not have an angel Moroni and one of three that do not have a spire . The latter goes back to the model of the Temple of Solomon , as well as the Laie Hawaii Temple and the Mesa Arizona Temple . The temple was renovated in the early 1990s.
Under the name Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints National Historic Site of Canada , the house of prayer was added to the directory of the National Historic Site of Canada on November 6, 1992 .
