Caren Marsh-Doll (born Caren Morris on April 6, 1919 in Hollywood , California ) is an American actress and dancer .

Life

Caren Marsh-Doll, like her family, was active in the Methodist Church . After graduating from high school in 1937, Marsh decided to become an actress. Despite resistance from her parents, who wanted her to graduate from college, she auditioned for MGM for the film Rosalie , in which she took on a dance role. However, because she resembled Judy Garland in size and stature , she was hired as Garland's light double for The Wizard of Oz . In the same year she also had an extra role as a guest at the garden party in Gone With the Wind . Today she is one of the last survivors of the two film classics. In the 1940s she played minor roles in a number of films, but did not make her breakthrough as a well-known actress.

She decided in 1937 to have her last name changed to Marsh because there were many people with the name "Morris" at the time. In a Standard Airlines flight accident on July 12, 1949, she was one of fourteen of 35 passengers who survived, but then had to lie in hospital for several weeks, seriously injured. In October 1950 she married Bill Doll, with whom she had a son. Caren's younger sister Dorothy Morris (1922-2011) was also an actress. In 2007 she published her autobiography Hollywood's Babe .
