The Carl-Maria-von-Weber-Theater is a theater in Bernburg (Saale) , Saxony-Anhalt , Schloßstraße 20. The building was opened in 1827. It is mainly used as a guest theater.
Location and architecture
The 340-seat theater is near the Bernburg Palace . It is built in the style of classicism . There are pillars on both sides of the entrance and a loggia above . This is designed as an antique temple based on antiquity . The front of the house is designed like a risalit .
history
The building was commissioned by Duke Alexius Friedrich Christian von Anhalt-Bernburg in 1826/1827 based on a design by the architect, building inspector Johann Philipp August Bunge . The opening as a ducal theater took place on March 2, 1827. In the years 1881/1882, a renovation was carried out by the Berlin architect and theater specialist Eduard Titz . At the same time the theater was expanded into a municipal theater. In 1954 the city theater building was named after the composer Carl Maria von Weber . A comprehensive modernization and restoration took place from 1993 to 1997, with a new stage tower being built. The auditorium was rebuilt to the original design of the 19th century.
