Hugo Eigendorff

Hugo Eigendorff (born January 18, 1901 in Hanover , † January 26, 1980 in Altenburg ) was a German theater director and opera singer .

Life

Eigendorff studied singing in Hanover from 1920 to 1924 and was operetta conductor there. From 1924 he was an opera singer in Detmold and had engagements in Göttingen , Gotha and Erfurt . In 1932 Hugo Eigendorff became an assistant director in Hanover. In 1935 he got an engagement at the German National Theater Weimar with Der Freischütz , followed by Parsifal , Der Ring des Nibelungen and many other productions.

In 1943 he was senior director of the opera in Schneidemühl , in 1944 and 1945 senior director of the opera at the German National Theater in Weimar . From May 14, 1945 to 1947 he worked as senior director in Rostock ; together with Willi Bredel he opened the Rostock Theater with the support of the Soviet occupying power with the productions “ Figaro's Wedding ”, “ Othello ” and “ The Flying Dutchman ”. Eigendorff was a guest director at many theaters between 1947 and 1949. From 1948 he was general manager and director of the Bernburg City Theater . 1953 to 1958 he had engagements in Rudolstadt, Greiz, Zittau. From 1958 to 1966 Eigendorff was the head of the artistic office at the Altenburg State Theater .

Hugo Eigendorff was married to the costume designer Anneliese Eigendorff and the soprano Edith Kirmße. He is the father of the German director Renee Eigendorff and the German director Rainer Eigendorff .
