Carl August Gebhardi
Carl August Gebhardi (* between 1720 and 1725 ; † unknown) was a German writer who drew attention to himself in the 1740s with poems and free- spirited memoranda.
Life
Almost nothing is known about Gebhardi's life. He enrolled as a law student at the University of Halle on May 14, 1743 ; according to the matriculation, he came from Böhne in Havelland. The later Tylsen pastor Friedrich Georg Gebhardi (1730–1799) is most likely a brother of his.
Gebhardi came out with shorter, named articles (mainly poems) in the Leipzig magazine Amusements of the mind and wit , a journal from the Gottsched environment, edited by Johann Joachim Schwabe . In addition, Gebhardi published the two anonymous free-spirited treatises in 1743, Reasonable Thoughts on the Use of the Strict Method of Teaching in Theology (for which a Latin version appeared in the same year) and Reasonable Consideration of Supernatural Events , which resulted in a series of refutations. Both texts have been re-edited in the appendix to Martin Mulsow's volume Freigeister im Gottsched-Kreis (2007).
