The Carl Behnk was a motor lifeboat of the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS).

deployment

Between 1944 and March 27, 1951, it was in service at the Westerland / Sylt station . It was then moved to the Burgstaaken / Burgtiefe station from June 29, 1951 to 1963. It was last stationed in Horumersiel from May 14, 1963 to 1969 . After being decommissioned in March 1969, Carl Behnk was sold to a private owner.

Technical specifications

The ship, which was 10 meters long and 2.80 meters wide, was built in 1944 by the Lürssen shipyard in Bremen-Vegesack and had a mahogany hull. The draft of the Carl Behnk , which was equipped with a 60 hp machine and had a top speed of 8 knots, was 0.70 meters. The name of the ship goes back to the Carl Behnk Foundation , which supports the DGzRS with a legacy .
