Carl Bobies
Carl (Karl) Bobies (born September 9, 1865 in Vienna ; † July 24, 1897 there ) was an Austrian landscape painter .
Life
Carl Bobies came from a family who immigrated to Austria in the 18th century and whose roots were in East Prussia and Lithuania . The name was not pronounced with a long i , but "Bobi - es". He was a cousin of Carl August Bobies (1853–1922), who later became Attorney General of the Supreme Court in Vienna. His uncle was the Viennese councilor and co-founder of the Schubert Association Franz Bobies (1826-1891), his great-nephew was the Viennese dermatologist Wolf-Dietrich Wittels .
Carl Bobies studied at the Vienna Academy and became an academic painter . His pictures still show a certain naturalistic representation, although the graphic element takes a back seat to the color as the primary design element. The execution is rather sketchy and gives the essence priority over the attention to detail.
In 1894 at the 3rd International Art Exhibition in the Künstlerhaus in Vienna, he exhibited an “Evening Mood on the Danube” and a pastel painting “Early Spring” . From 1897 he was himself a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus. At the 280th art auction of the Vienna Dorotheum (December 1917) a number 909 dated 1894 and “K. Bobies ”signed pastel painting “ Early spring in the Danube floodplains ”is auctioned. In the Ludwig Lobmeyr collection there was a, 1890 with “K. Bobies ”signed watercolor “ Alter Hof in Weißenkirchen ad Donau ” .
In 1954, "Bobiesgasse" in Vienna's 23rd district was named after him.
