Carl Clarence Kiess

Carl Clarence Kiess (born October 18, 1887 in Fort Wayne , Indiana , † October 16, 1967 ) was an American astronomer .

Kiess worked at the Lick Observatory . In 1911 he discovered the comet C / 1911 N1 named after him .

In 1963 he received an honorary doctorate from Indiana University . In 1929 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society . In addition, the moon crater Kiess and the asteroid (1788) Kiess were named after him.
