Carl Friedrich Ludwig Dinklage (born May 17, 1868 in Osternburg ; † June 4, 1941 in Oldenburg ) was a German industrialist and from 1910 chairman of the board of the Oldenburger Glashütte .

biography

Dinklage was the son of the Oldenburg Chamber Auditor Carl Heinrich Dinklage and his wife Elisabeth born. Bruns. In 1885 he began an apprenticeship in the Oldenburg glassworks located in Easter castle. In the same year the company was converted into a stock corporation. He made a career and was granted power of attorney in 1893 . In 1910 he was promoted to the board of directors of the Oldenburg parent plant, which had recently been expanded to include the glassworks in Stadthagen (1908) and Hildburghausen (1909) due to his in-depth commercial knowledge . As chairman of the board, he led the company on its way to national and international market recognition by initiating the conversion to automatic bottle production as early as 1911. In addition, the Friedrichstal glassworks on the Saar was purchased in 1913 . However, due to adverse market conditions, he had to shut down the factory, which is heavily dependent on exports, in 1914.

With the outbreak of the First World War , deliveries to the army and to the neutral foreign countries that could be reached offered a makeshift replacement, but Dinklage was only able to regain some of the lost territory after the end of the war. In addition, the lucrative Indian bottle market was lost for legal reasons. In the inflation year of 1923 , thanks to Dinklage's foresight, the glassworks was one of the few stock corporations in Germany that was able to secure its capital by switching to gold marks in good time . Dinklage's attempt to counter the effects of the global economic crisis by joining the International German Bottle Sales Office, founded in 1930 , only brought temporary success. The quotas set by this cartel proved to be too low for profitable operation, so that production, but not sales, had to be stopped again between the end of 1931 and 1935.

In addition to his work as head of the glassworks, Dinklage was a member of numerous business associations and from 1921 to 1924 President of the Oldenburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry .
