Carl Forcht

Carl Forcht (born June or July 1907 in Göttingen , † April 26, 1997 in West Hollywood , California ) was a German film editor .

Forcht had studied theater studies and art history . He then received training as an assistant editor and director. Forcht joined films at the end of 1931, and two years later he was allowed to work as an independent film editor for the first time.

His best-known feature film works as an editor include “ The Finances of the Grand Duke ”, “ Port Arthur ” and “ Other World ”. During the war, the man from Göttingen served as editor of newsreels and directed (dialogue) documentaries. Forcht was also temporarily active in Italy. For his work he received the War Merit Cross 2nd Class from Adolf Hitler on September 1, 1944 .

In February 1946 Forcht emigrated to the USA via Sweden and settled in Hollywood. There he had great difficulties finding a place in the film business and had to deal with minor ancillary activities - 1951 production manager for Robert Siodmak's socially realistic factory worker and strike drama " The Whistle at Eaton Falls ", small trolls the following year as a German lieutenant in Billy Wilder's POW drama " Stalag 17 " - content.

Forcht, an American citizen since November 12, 1948, was married to actress Genia Nikolajewa, who emigrated to Hollywood in 1937 . Both had met while filming “ The Finances of the Grand Duke ” and found each other again in 1946 after a nine-year separation.
